Amateur players will have an opportunity to win a seven-figure prize when they take on world-class athletes - including top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz - in a one-point battle before January's Australian Open

Organizers of the Australian Open have revealed the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will pit 10 amateur players against elite athletes in a elimination competition at the Australian Open venue

How the Competition Operates

Players will play 'the decision-making game' to decide who serves or receives, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the subsequent phase

The winner of the event will receive approximately half a million pounds

By comparison, players who reached the penultimate round of the main draw competitions in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

Tournament Details

Officials have not detailed exactly how the event will work, but it is anticipated to mirror a similar format to this year's edition

While it is not certain how the pairings will work, there will be multiple elimination stages and the venue will be the main stadium rather than the secondary venue

Participation Details

Any Australians - or overseas competitors who have registered with the national federation - can enter 'single-point competition' competitions at their community centers

The winners of the community events will then go into a draw, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory selected to compete in the 'championship round' in a evening match on the specified date

There will also be a qualifying draw in the final month which amateurs, lower ranked pros, famous personalities and sport stars can compete in

It commences on early January and the successful competitors will advance to Wednesday's 'final showdown' with the remaining non-professionals and 10 professionals

"Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the overall victor will claim the award. Applications will begin shortly at clubs throughout the nation"

Competition planners stated there were "additional stars to be announced soon", while the official website mentioned "well-known figures" would be participating
