Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
