New Details Emerge Concerning the Discovery of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner's Remains
Recent details have emerged concerning the untimely deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Los Angeles home property on Sunday.
A Initial Report
A source indicates citing a family associate, a therapist arriving for an appointment first raised the alarm after being unable to gain access the home. The therapist then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
When she went into the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Subsequently, emergency responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Proceedings
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently being held and denied bail.
Clarifications
The anonymous source questioned several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.
The source also pushed back against published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in recent weeks. Rather the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes descriptions of reportedly "erratic" conduct by Nick at a event held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.
Ongoing Inquiry Details
Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, about 15 miles from the residence. He was set to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not received medical clearance and would be unable to attend until Wednesday or later.
