Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with performances like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
