The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their 2028 European Championship journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they attain the anticipated entry for a championship hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to stage the England side for their first match on Saturday 10 June 2028.

England are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win their group, their round of 16 match would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Opening and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the venue by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were held up with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will involve Wales if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to families and help connect with a more diverse set of viewers.

Host Nations

The Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would follow suit at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals played at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in Belfast, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Official Statement

“The event will be a tournament for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the sport – its passion and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million passes, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
